Moving On

December 2, 2005 07:59 PM

I am moving the blog to another location and to another blogging software program. I cannot stand Movable Type and its many deficiencies. The archives and search do not work all that well, but they are servicable for new comers or those who have not looked at all the material on their topic of interest.

This blogging is weird anyway. I don't need any validation of my thinking or research. I do what I do and am satisfied with what little I have managed to know and do in my life. It is far beyond what I thought I might do and I am satisfied.

You can look for the site later on another server and software. It will appear at a theater near you sometime. Look for it or not. Your choice. I have a wife to care for and a grandson to be a friend and grandfather to.

And, I have a golf swing and riding style to perfect (not to mention a mind and body and softball swing). Not bad to have perfect health and do whatever I want to in this stage of life. I wish you all the same.

Enjoy the archives. I will leave them here for a while. Blogging is not all that hot, I doubt I will do much more of it.

Rest, sir, you've made your point. Stop blogging a dead horse :-)

Seriously, I purchased Chapter 1 of your book and am looking forward to the rest of the book.

If you're stuck with writer's block why not simply publish a couple of lists and comment each item? I'd pay for that too. For instance, one week of your diet (Monday 6:30 AM -- 45g of nuts, etc.) and one week of workouts, including ball playing, walking, etc.

Regards,
Vincent Poirier

Frozen shoulder is pretty much the way is sounds, the shoulders become nearly immobile and painful. When I attempt an overhead press, I get snapping and cracking in the shoulders, and have to struggle, sometimes painfully to complete the movement. This can be just putting dishes in the cabinet, it's not the amount of weight, it's the movement. Up to 20% of diabetics experience some form of FS. The technical explaination is thought to be, the sugar in the blood affects the collegen to create this immobile state. However much of the why is still unexplained, including why mostly in the shoulders. This past summer, I severely pulled calf muscles in both legs by running hard to first base. I had done some sprints, and was baffled by the injuries, but after finding out this info, it made more sense. This link has more info.

I have regained much of the mobility by doing more rotater cuff type and other delt exercises on a daily basis, and also by increasing my workouts to 5 - 6 times per week. Keep moving is the key.

What is "frozen shoulder"?

Art, The forum for response is something I enjoy reading every few days. I have learned much from your site, including a clue about diabetes. I was recently diagosed as a "borderline" diabetic. At 48 years old, 5'9' and now at 170 lbs, working out and eating as well as I thought possible, I was ignoring the signs(dry mouth, constant hunger, frequent urination, "frozen shoulder" and more), because I couldn't believe I was heading in that direction.(genetics are against me). Because of reading about your wife's diabetes and what you experienced with the hospitals and such, I also knew not to trust the recommendations from the American Diabetic Association, and have changed my eating to eliminate even more grains from my diet(not that I was eating tons of them).
I don't blame you for wanting to move on. Your family is more important than blogging.
Look forward to your final product.

I do hope you continue blogging. Not so much for validation, but to hear the reactions and questions of your audience, before you publish. Also, you can put some educated, researched facts into the blogosphere to counter the baseless rumor and opinion that circulates. I look forward to reading Evolutionary Fitness.
