A Picture of 70
August 30, 2007 02:57 PM
I am doing this to memorialize my 70th birthday. It is my first picture with my shirt off. Actually, I take my shirt off often, but I don't like people staring at me, which they often do. If you saw me in my clothes you would not guess how much muscle I carry beneath them. This is at 196 pounds, just about a perfect weight for me now.
I had no one to take it as I spent my birthday alone and I did not have my camera. So, I shot my reflection with my iPhone in the gym at Punta Esmeralda, where my place here in Puerto Vallarta is located.
It is all a bit strange, but I felt it was important to note how I look on my 70th and this was the only way to do it. For me, 70 is a nice age; I can do whatever I want and feel wonderful. And I have learned a bit over the years.

Congrats on making 70 looking great. It is kind of ironic that I read your blog and Clarence Bass' site and you both turned 70 very near the same time. I am not yet 40 and look to you guys for knowledge and inspiration. Thanks!
May I also make the suggestion that you should get some professional photos done of yourself. Maybe some artistic back and whites by a photographer who really knows what they are doing. That body is amazing for 70 and it deserves much better than an iphone photo.

Count me in as another one eagerly awaiting the book!
I showed this pic to my boyfriend, and then told him your age. He is still picking his jaw up from the floor.
Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Art! You have been, and continue to be, an inspiration for what is possible. The world is short on role models, probably because people seem so lax in holding themselves accountable for anything, including but not limited to their health and body shape. Best wishes for many, many more.

Wow. I'll be 60 next May and your photo will be my inspiration to approach your level. I feel pretty good about where I am at (in part b/c I discovered your site and www contributions several years ago). i read a LOT of this stuff and yours is what I take the most from insprirationally but more importantly scientifcally. What I would like to know is where do those pecs come from in consideration of your dismissal of conventional bench pressing? Thanks, Rick Strong

Warm congratulations on celebrating your 70th birthday Art!
I know that I would not be alone in thanking you for sharing this snap of yourself - you are an inspiration to many people across the globe. You are a glowing example of health and vitality!
I am a pool manager in a veterans rehabilitation hospital in Australia, and we predominately care for people 50 and over. As a consequence, I see mature age men and women in their bathers all day - and boy, have I seen some sights! But I have never seen anyone with your level of fitness and musculature - and I know that if you were to ever visit our facility you would be an inspiration to all!
I have only known about EF for three weeks now - I was googling paleo diets and came across your blog. Instantly your wisdom and knowledge has struck a chord with me, and pretty well anyone else I have been raving to about you. I have begun embracing EF, and am already seeing benefits.
The western world needs your book Art! I know you must get a little tired of hearing this - but I know that when you finally release it it will cause such a stir worldwide! I would even go as far as saying that EF technologies may well play a part in dragging our species back from the edge of self-destruction.
It is far from too late - all society needs is some brilliant minds who can also lead by example. The wisdom and knowledge you have dedicated your life to accumulating will have a lasting effect on humanity.
Art - you're the man!
