This is one of the more readable and thorough explanations of self-organization Complexity and Self-Organization

The ideas are highly relevant to fitness and health, and life, as I have tried to show.

I think you and your readers will find Making Things Work by Yaneer Bar-Yam interesting. It's an explanation of complex systems analysis plus some specific examinations of defense, healthcare, education, and more. I found his discussion of healthcare particularly interesting, offering an analysis I had not seen anywhere else.
