Me on my 69th birthday, August 29, 2006.

I am Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of California, Irvine, where I also was a member of the Institute for Mathematical Behavioral Sciences. I published many articles and books on the organization of industry, incentives, decentralization, and complexity in economic systems. Hollywood Economics: How Extreme Uncertainty Shapes the Film Industry (2004) is my latest book.

I am a scientist/athlete and expect to comment on issues of science, uncertainty, the movies, adventure, and fitness as well as other topics from this perspective.

My main objective in this blog is to work on my book Evolutionary Fitness. Many of you will know something of the ideas in this book from my University web site and from many other web sites and discussion forums on the internet. I am now back to work on the book and will be putting various materials and interviews up on this site as I work through the chapters.

I live according to the principles of Evolutionary Fitness and have been doing so for the past 20 years. At 70, I am fit and lean and strong at 6'1" and 195 pounds. I am never sick and can do anything I want to do. Everyone should or could be this way with the right technology, which I develop in my book.

I also love baseball, golf, and adventure motorcycling. I played professional baseball in the minor leagues, competed in Olympic style weightlifting, and was a successful motocross and cross country racer. I carried my love of baseball over to slow pitch softball in my retirement here in Saint George, Utah.
