This is one of the best interviews I did while still a Professor at UCI. It covers, if that is possible, the brewing mixture of decentralization, chaos, and order from chaos that became the central features of my research program in economics and in health.
The interviewer is an experienced science writer who has interviewed many of the top scientists. She made the flattering comment that interviewing me was like interviewing Linus Pauling, with so many connections coming from so many areas. Some of my colleagues were miffed at what I said, I think because I was critical of government sponsored research. I meant this with regard to economics research, though I could have added climate research to the mixture.
