It is well-known that the mitochondria, the energy furnaces in our cells, shift to fat when calories or carbohydrates are limited. This has a beneficial effect on energy production and cell aging. Most of the things that favorably improve the functioning of and protect the mitochondria are mainstays of Evolutionary Fitness
