Have a look at this, then read Mike's message.

Art,
I turned 57 at the end of May.
This year I am not at as lean as the last two years. My wife kept telling me
I was a bit too lean so I added a little more fat. (More EF calories.)
I'm a lot stronger than a year ago and also feel that I added a bit more
muscle. How much? Maybe a couple of pounds. It's hard to measure actual
muscle mass gain. Too many variables. Fat, water retention, etc.
For the last few months I've been following the Anaconda Protocol
on the T-Nation website. (where I discovered you, back in 2006, I think it
was.)
I use their basic program, but add a lot more rest days (I'm not 25 anymore)
and I don't use any of the products they push.
What I like about the program is the way they mix it up. It's not to
failure. When you can't explode the weight, you stop. It has heavy low reps,
sometimes with pauses (a lot like you suggest). And it's been working for
me. With my revisions of adding randomness to it and EF eating. I also like
the videos they have.
Looking forward to your book release.
SuperMike
When I congratulated him to tell him he is setting new standards, he replied: "No sir. You've set the standard, I'm merely reaping the benefits."
