HIV-positive patients acquire glutathione deficiency. Glutathione is called the master antioxidant because it is central to controlling ROS, free radicals that damage cells. In addition to HIV-positives, diabetics, and asthmatics also develop a pathogenic deficiency of glutathione. Drs. Demopoulus, Seligman, Ollerenshway and Richie recently presented the results of a clinical trial of a bioavailable glutathione, Ultrathione, in HIV-positive patients, whose acquired deficiency is well-established and used as a model of glutathione deficiency. Intracellular repletion of glutathione was demonstrated within 30 minutes of dosing. As many of you may know by now, I have taken Ultrathione for more than 25 years and believe it is an important factor in how I age.
