The Insulin Index
Dec 5, 2011
The insulin index is an alternative to the glycemic index. Rather than measure the rise in blood glucose when a food is eaten as the glycemic index does, the insulin index measures the insulin response. Yet, there is some ambiguity here because the foods ingested seldom have only protein, carbohydrate, or fat. Moreover, the carbohydrate may be of several different forms such as sugar or starch (there are many starches too).
Insulin Signalling, Everywhere
Oct 29, 2010
The centality of insulin signalling is being uncovered in many studies now. My recent posts have been exploring this imortant pathway in health and aging. Most of we EFers have already turned down the insulin pathway by eating foods that do not trigger it, by increasing our insulin sensitivity through activity, and decreasing our body fat, partcularly that awful VAT. Here is the latest study on the insulin pathway, which plays a role, not only in obesity and metabolism, but has wide ranging effects on cancer, skeletal mass and metabolism, and depression.

Tight Insulin Control
Feb 15, 2010
I have discussed tight glucose control and some of its implications. The stark findings of the key study cited here is that tight control was associated with increased mortality.
Insulin, Appetite and Weight Loss
Dec 14, 2009
I have argued for years that reducing insulin, which stores part of the energy you ingest into fat, will reduce appetite, increase energy expenditure, and lead to a reduction in fat mass and body weight. Because my fasting insulin is at the lowest level the lab can measure, I have no problems with weight management or eating. My appetite leads me to eat the right amount of food naturally, with far more control than a planned diet or eating program could ever achieve. This new experiment supports my long-standing practice.
